If Love Was Enough
David Humble · Witness Tracks
A Socratic meditation on the extraction-driven world — where the system hoards, the poor are sold, and progress masks decay. Through a cascade of 'if' questions, the track moves from witnessing pain to the turning point: resting in the quiet, holding what is true, loving without fear. The witness does not fight the old world with weapons. The witness stands at the open gates with a heart that says the race is run. Love is not sentiment — it is the only structural alternative to the extraction matrix.
[Intro — Spoken] If I fall or if I fly... If I live or if I die... If I love then will I cry... If I tell the truth will they recognize... [Verse 1] If I see a world, it's a world of pain Can we heal the world again? If life was a game, shouldn't it be played with love? If love was the only, wouldn't it be enough? The system's broken, the script is old The rich get richer, the poor get sold They run the numbers, they run the show But they don't know what they don't know [Chorus] If I fall or if I fly If I live or if I die If I love then will I cry If I tell the truth will they recognize If love was the only, wouldn't it be enough? If life was a game, shouldn't it be played with love? [Verse 2] They build their walls, they draw their lines They hoard the gold, they steal the time They call it progress, call it fate But they're a little too late The children cry, the earth is sick They play their games with dirty tricks But underneath the noise and fear The truth is waiting to appear [Chorus] If I fall or if I fly If I live or if I die If I love then will I cry If I tell the truth will they recognize If love was the only, wouldn't it be enough? If life was a game, shouldn't it be played with love? [Bridge — The Turning] If I rest in the quiet, will I hear the call? If I see through the noise, will I see it all? If I give what I have, will it come back around? If I hold what is true, will I stand my ground? If I love without fear, will the world begin to heal? If I stand in the light, will the darkness feel? If I offer my heart, will it find its way? If I stay in the now, will I find a better day? [Verse 3] I see the injustice, I see the pain But I won't play the losing game I'll build a world that's slow and still Where love can grow and truth can fill The old world burns, the new world waits The witness stands at the open gates Not with a sword, not with a gun With a heart that says the race is run [Final Chorus] If I fall or if I fly If I live or if I die If I love then will I cry If I tell the truth will they recognize If love was the only, wouldn't it be enough? If life was a game, shouldn't it be played with love? [Outro — Soft and Spoken] If love was the only... Wouldn't it be enough? If life was a game... Shouldn't it be played with love? The witness rests. The witness sees. The witness loves. And love is enough.
